First it was Friday from home.
Then 2 days a week from home.
Then 3.
Then it was one day per week in the office.
Then one day per month in the office.
Then max 3 months remote.
Then fully-remote.
Then it was fully-remote, but you must stay in the same country.
Now it is fully-remote “but you have to stay in the same continent” (Usa, Europe etc.)
Culture takes time to adapt to new reality.
The truth is we work with computers, and computers are connected to a Network. Everything else is cultural inertia.
Institutions don’t know why they want you in the building. They cannot exactly pin-point why, so they try with
« Remote work is up to 15% less productive »
Even if it was true (which isn’t): So What?
« Pay me 15% less, I won’t have to commute anymore »
The truth is that every worker with any leverage is leaving these companies or is planning to go fully-remote. This is the new normal, everything else is just cultural inertia, transition time.
Tune out all the corporate bla-bla-bla, lay your hammock, and enjoy the new normal: Work from the Solar System.
